Dems slap each other around in 6th District

Emanuel recruits Duckworth to stop Cegelis in RAT primary

According to Lynn Sweet in the Sun-Times, the "powers that be" in the IL Dem Party have turned on Christine Cegelis (you know, the phony that they touted as the "next Melissa Bean when she got 44% against Hyde in '04)

Apprently, as chairman of the DCCC, Emanuel has been encouraging Army Maj. Ladda "Tammy" Duckworth (who lost her legs in the Iraq and can play the Max Cleland card) to undermining Cegelis because he is "convinced she cannot raise enough money to win a general election where the front-runner for the GOP nomination is state Sen. Peter Roskam" (Gee, I thought Roskam was dooooomed against the Melissa Bean wannabe ::snickers::)

IMO, any Dem running in DuPage county was going to have a huge uphill battle (and sorry, Roskam is NO Crane), but Cegelis was probably the only one with a prayer of winning because of the name recongition and the "she's Melissa Bean II" hype. However, Tammy" Duckworth has her own Bean factor due to the fact she actually lives three miles OUTSIDE Hyde's district.

Roskam is running virtually unopposed to suceed Hyde, so I'm all for the DuPage Dems beating each other up in the primary and sqandering what little resources they have. It is a useless execuse, like all the problems caused when several Republicans decided to "take out" Maureen Murphy as Chairman of the Cook County GOP. It's a fight over breadcrumbs.

Ironically, the national GOP is having a lot of problems this election cycle, but things are going pretty well for our side on the state level. Could Illinois '06 be a repeat of Illinois '98 where we lose seats in Congress nationally but do well in state offices?
